While blue conjures images of sky and sea, it’s also the color of bravery and dedication. Blue represents introspective journeys and symbolizes wisdom and depth of understanding. Blue represents the healing nature of water and the power of stormy seas.
Tangaroa - God of the Sea. Tangaroa made laws to protect the ocean and its sea creatures “Tiaki mai i ahau, maku ano koe e tiaki”… ... We received their blessing to use the name, which is applied with the utmost respect and the understanding that all our oceans are connected.
Māori believe that water is an energy, with many moods. It can be calm and life-giving, or dangerous and destructive.
Our Tangaroa design includes a blend of royal blue, black and turquoise coque feathers which has finished with white coque feathers and a royal blue pātiki taniko band.
The Pātiki design is based on the Flounder (fish) which is a symbol for hospitality.According to legends, the pātikitiki significance relates to being able to provide 100% - not only for the husband, or the whānau, but for the whole iwi.
